TGIF…

It’s Friday!! When I was a kid making it to the 3:00 school bell felt like a major accomplishment. Maybe you were like me and can remember watching the second hand spin around and finally make that final click and you were filled with joy because you knew you had two days of no school. As we get older many people find that same joy in getting to the weekend, in fact how often do we see and hear TGIF, but now we look at it as a major life accomplishment. I made it! I am the master of my life! Look at how I persevered through this week! We seem to find the same joy in making it to Friday as we did when we were a kid but now it’s an accomplishment of our own strength.

For the Christian we should not think of making it to Friday like it’s an accomplishment we made but we should look at it as a grace which God has given us. In James 4:13-14 God’s Word says,

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.

God has not promised us another Friday, in fact He has not promised us another tomorrow. The only thing the believer knows for certain is that though we do not know what the future holds, we know the one who will hold us through that future. For that we can be thankful for every day that He gives us.

So today when you think about making it to another Friday actually thank God for the life he has given you this last week because every week is a gift from Him.

Soli Deo Gloria,

Aaron
